Motto:
Personally, I see WingTsun as much more than a martial art – I see it as a life task that is worth continuing to develop and perfect.
Why did you start with WingTsun?
Quite early I started with Judo and changed after a few years to Shotokan Karate. I remained faithful to it for about 13 years. There I was awarded the 1st Dan (black belt).
I felt very limited by my movement and was always looking for a complete system – a system that could also be used in its application against an aggressor. Bruce Lee inspired me at that time to learn martial arts. Through an article in the then still available “Budo-Zeitschrift” I became aware of a seminar: with the contents of Bruce Lee’s “Jeet Kune Do”.
One day I got a book from a friend with the title “Vom Zweikampf“. Interested, I read it and quickly came to the conclusion that WingTsun would influence my later life. I decided to participate in an Easter training course near Heidelberg. After the fourth day, I knew this was it. I decided to do a package training at Langenzell Castle near Heidelberg.
Why are you still doing WingTsun?
I am still enthusiastic about WingTsun after 25 years and it is still a lot of fun. That is important for me!
What was your standout WT experience?
That was in 2002 the appointment as Sifu by GM Kernspecht in Kiel.
What changed for you when you received the 1st HG or 5th MG?
With the 1st HG I could finish the 1st to 7th section ChiSao. I learned a lot of knowledge from 1st HG to 5th MG. I was always very excited to learn something new and couldn’t wait to learn the next sections. I was especially interested in the wooden dummy form and its applications. With the 5th MG, a very big dream came true for me personally. Now I am allowed to give all student grade exams to my own students.
